You can find us on Google Maps!

The Happee Manatee is centrally located and within 1.5 hours drive from the majority of Belize’s most popular attractions.  Use this as your base as you explore what this beautiful country has to offer.  Having a rental vehicle is best if you plan to head out on adventures, and if you’re only with us for a short stay, a car may not even be necessary.  Regardless, below you will find many methods for arriving here.

Driving at night can be a bit tricky.  The highways are not well lit or at all, and often have people walking or riding bikes along the sides (less likely on the Coastal Highway).  Some people choose to stay in Belize City the first night if arriving on a later flight.

Its good to note that the four mile road in can be a little bumpy depending on the time of year.  Wet season makes the road a little slower to get down, but completely manageable with a regular vehicle and does not require a 4×4.  Consider the road in part of your adventure.  Take the time to observe the landscape and just keep driving, we promise, it will be worth it in the end.  We have signs posted at each intersection to help you navigate and if you do decide to drive at night, please use google map directions to get you here.  We are always a phone call away just in case.

The quickest method is to take one of Belize’s small “puddle jumper” planes from the Belize International Airport (BZE) to Dangriga (DGA) for a 15 min flight.

The two local airlines are Tropic Air and Maya Island Air. There isn’t much of a price difference between the two, both coming in at under $100USD pp per way from the International Airport. This price is reduced if you fly out of the Municipal Airport (TZA) but requires you to get transport to the Municipal location.

We recommend booking your flight about 60-75 minutes after your scheduled arrival time at BZE in order to give you time to get through immigration and customs. When you arrive at the Dangriga airstrip (DGA), you can hire MNA Taxi Service, arrange a pickup with us for $50 USD or rent a car from Dangriga Auto Rental and Transfers.

We would gladly arrange to pick you up at the airport.  Our charge is to cover our fuel and wear and tear at $100 USD.

There are numerous car rental agencies in Belize with one of them being quite popular and the one we have personal experience with.  Crystal Auto is highly recommended as a fair and good company to deal with. AQ Belize is also popular with good rates but we have never personally used them so cannot speak to their fleet nor handling of issues.

Whether you rent a car from us, or you rent from someone else in Belize you won’t regret having the freedom to come and go as you please.

There are two highways you can take to get here, the Hummingbird which is one of the most beautiful scenic routes and is very popular with tourists.  It takes you a little out of the way, but if you are in no rush and have the time, this may be the one you would like to experience.

The newly constructed Coastal Plain Highway is just as lovely, but in its own way.  It gets you here much quicker and allows you to experience the Hummingbird at your leisure and not on a time crunch to reach us after a day of travel.  We recommend trying to arrive before 5:30 as the dark is just starting to set in.  It’s so nice to arrive when you can see the sea and what your view will be while staying here.

If your only stop is us and you don’t need a vehicle for another part of your trip, this option would work well for you.  We pick you up at the airport for $100 USD and you only rent the vehicle for the days you want to head out on an adventure.  No paying for a day to have the car sit in the driveway.

Taxis are plentiful and can range from $150 USD and up.  Gas is expensive here so the fuel and time need to be accounted for.  It all depends on your style and what your budget is, you will have many options right outside the airport exit.  Arranging transportation prior is not necessary but if you prefer to have everything lined up we would refer you to MNA Taxi Service.

Manuel is prompt, professional and has clean and reliable vehicles. He resides in Dangriga but will pick you up and take you anywhere in Belize.

We have never travelled this way but have always wanted to and think this would be a really awesome way to arrive. This route would be through inland lagoons and not by sea.

We only know of one option with a gentleman named John Moore.

If this was of any interest to anyone, it would need to be arranged far in advance of your stay here.

The buses are on a very specific schedule (which changes on a whim) and the timing of your flight would need to work with the times the buses leave Belize City. Personally, we would never consider, nor recommend using a local bus if you’re coming for a week or two. Life is too short, and vacations are even shorter.  Now if you are arriving here from another part of Belize, your options will open up. We certainly don’t mean to offend our backpacking guests, but you’re probably not just staying a week or two in the country.

If your flight arrives in time for you to catch the Alma Bus Line (current reports show this may not be an option at this time) that leaves Belize City bus terminal at approximately 3:00 pm, then perhaps this option would work for you.  A taxi from the airport to the terminal will run you $30-40 USD.  This bus will stop at the village of Gales Point which would make your trek in to our location a long 5 mile walk.  We could arrange for a pickup at the end of the highway for $10 USD.

Another option would be the James Bus Line that leaves Belize City bus terminal a few times a day.  You could get a stop at La Democracia (not a scheduled stop) with a pickup for $40 USD or at Hope Creek (scheduled) for $30 USD.

Floralia is the “new express luxury” bus with Wifi and bathroom on board.

Please keep in mind buses may be a give or take with the schedule, it would be best to confirm with each company as you plan your trip. That exercise alone will probably leave you exasperated and convince you find some other mode of transport.
